Pediatrics, Common OTC 0-5 Years

Common over the counter medication doses for Children aged 0-5:

Acetaminophen (Tylenol):
Indication: fever and pain for ages 0 to 5 years
15 mg/kg by mouth every four hours, max 5 doses in a day
If your child is 40 kg or more, the max daily dose is 4000 mg/day

Ibuprofen (Advil):
Indication: fever and pain for ages 6 months to 5 years
10 mg/kg by mouth every 6 hours
If your child is 60 kg or more, the max daily dose is 2400 mg/day
*DO NOT USE if less than 6 months old

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl):
Indication: cough suppressant ages 2 to 5 years old
6.25 mg by mouth every 4 hours
Max 25 mg/day (4 doses)
*DO NOT USE if less than 2 years old

Dimenhydrinate (Gravol):
Indication: nausea for ages 2 to 5 years old
5 mg/kg/day by mouth divided into three or four doses per day
If your child is 15 kg or more, the max daily dose is 75 mg/day
*DO NOT USE if less than 2 years oldĀ 

*Remember to ALWAYS CHECK the CONCENTRATION of liquid medications!
